Product detailed description
Set of grinding powders F60, F120, F220, F400 and F600 from silicon carbide SiC.
The powder is used to level, clean or revive grinding stones on glass with a small amount of water. During grinding, the stones wear down and a so-called "saddle" is formed. To achieve a good sharpening result, it is necessary to level the stones regularly. For this purpose, it is recommended to use a glass plate with silicon carbide powder.
Features:
- suitable for leveling grinding stones or for polishing tools
- the set contains 5 powders: F60, F120, F220, F400 and F600
- weight: 100 g of each powder (500 g in total)
- sharp-edged shape
- density 3 - 3.5 g/cc
- hardness 9 - 9.5 Mohs
Composition:
- SiC - 98,60 %
- SiO2 - 0,25 %
- Si - 0,15 %
- Fe2O3 - 0,05 %
The procedure for straightening and reviving the stone:
- before leveling, it is necessary to draw a grid on the surface of the stone with a pencil moisten the surface of the glass plate with water using a spray bottle.
- We make sure that the layer of water covers the entire glass without collecting drops.
- carefully scoop up the silicon carbide with a teaspoon and pour it on the board from a small height of 5-10 cm (so that the powder does not scatter).
- spread the silicon carbide, like water, over the surface of the glass. The suspension should not be very thick, but not very thin either.
- during the leveling process, gently press the stone and make a figure-eight movement until the drawn grid disappears
Before switching to a larger grain, it is necessary to thoroughly rinse the glass and stone, wipe the table and wash your hands - this is necessary, because the ingress of coarse powder can spoil the whole result of leveling.
Be careful when handling dry fine silicon carbide powder from F400 to avoid inhalation!
Use the table below to select an abrasive grain based on your abrasive material.

Silicon carbide SiC is a compound of silicon and carbon.
Silicon carbide is produced by reducing silicon oxide with carbon, which takes place at sufficiently high temperatures in electric resistance furnaces. After sorting out the finely crystalline unreacted product, the lumped silicon carbide is crushed, ground, washed in water, and sorted with a magnet on abrasive grain nets.
Silicon carbide is most often used as an abrasive in the production of grinding tools and aids.
