Detailed information

Product detailed description

The Premium line is the highest line from the PD TOOLS Superabrasives range - layer thickness 3 mm, metallic bronze bond.

CBN (cubic boron nitride) is the second hardest material after diamond. The qualities of CBN include high levels of high hardness, strength, abrasion resistance, and heat and chemical resistance. These properties exceed those of synthetic diamonds and conventional abrasives such as silicon carbide and aluminum oxide. Especially due to its high thermal stability and chemical resistance, CBN is suitable for sharpening in conditions where synthetic diamonds are not normally used. CBN offers excellent performance when sharpening knives from any steel. Due to its high resistance, CBN can be used dry without lubricant. This makes CBN the purest grinding stone available. Metal (metallic) CBN stones use a combination of copper and tin (bronze) alloy for high resistance and low wear rate. The stones are mounted on a blank of high quality aircraft aluminum.

PD TOOLS Superabrasives Premium CBN uses a metal (bronze) binder that is close to metal in terms of wear resistance.

The metal bond, according to its main purpose, must hold the diamond grains on the working surface of the tool and at the same time withstand mechanical and thermal loads. Naturally, the main criterion of its quality is the intensity of its wear, it should be minimal. This is achieved by simply increasing the hardness of the joint to the maximum. Baking of such a bundle is usually done at temperatures of 900-1300 degrees. Plasticity also plays an important role in the work of the binder, as it is necessary to ensure that the abrasive grains are completely covered by the binder without gaps. In addition, the effectiveness of the binding also depends on the thermal conductivity, which determines the intensity of heat flow removal and ensures minimal heating of the working surface of the tool. The number of materials that can provide such properties is not large. The most common are copper-aluminum, copper-tin and aluminum-zinc bonds

Stone properties

  • grain size (125/100 µm) 160 grit
  • dimensions of the grinding part: 150(L) x 12(W) x 3(H) mm
  • dimensions with blank: 160(L) x 12(W) x 6.6(H) mm
  • CBN layer thickness: 3 mm
  • Concentration of CBN (cubic boron nitride) powder: 100%
  • Premium CBNs are ideal for sharpening knives from any steel, modern "super steels" as well as for grinding ceramic knives.

Advantages of sharpening knives with Premium CBN stones:

  • Comfort when working — the stone is hard enough, but comfortable to work with. It is often compared to Japanese water stones, but Premium CBN is ten times more durable than them.
  • Undemanding — knife stones made of boron nitride do not require additional care, which cannot be said about natural and synthetic knife sharpening stones. These bars do not require the application of cutting fluids (coolants).
  • Fine processing — CBN grains appear finer and more productive, while not leaving unwanted scratches on the knife edge when sharpening. This is due to the fact that CBN has an octahedron crystal structure — it has more cutting edges, but the corners are less sharp, giving a good mirror-like result.
  • Versatility - different grains of stones but of the same size allows you to change the stones depending on the processing phase without changing the sharpening angle of the knife
  • High performance CBN for sharpening knives — an excellent result is achieved thanks to the concentration of 100% CBN grain

How to use:

  • it is possible to grind dry with stones, but for grain sizes smaller than 50/40, we recommend using soapy foam or baby oil johnson baby
  • we recommend micellar water for cleaning stones
  • bars are restored in the process of salting with pumice, abrasive tools, silicon carbide powder on a flat surface

These stones are suitable for TsProf, Hapstone, Kazak.

The history of the enterprise dates back to 1966 when it was established as “Poltava Plant of Synthetic Diamonds and Diamond Tools” following the country’s directive to develop and master the technology of diamond synthesis and diamond tool production.

In 1966, diamond powder was synthesized for the first time at the plant. Within a short period, the plant became the largest producer of grinding and micro-powders of synthetic diamonds in the USSR.

Today, PJSC “Poltava Diamond Tools” is a modern enterprise specializing in the production of a wide range of diamond and CBN tools for the manufacturing and sharpening of tools made of hard alloys and high-speed steels; grinding and polishing of parts made of hard alloys, heat-resistant, alloyed, and stainless steels, glass, ceramics, silicon, refractory materials, precious stones, and other materials; cutting of products made of hard alloy, glass, marble, granite, quartz, ceramics, and construction materials; drilling of glass and highly reinforced concrete, and more.
