Product detailed description
Brought to fame by the Gurkha regiments serving under the British crown, ‘Kukri’ is a Nepalese multipurpose blade derived from ancient Greek sickle-shaped swords. It is ultimately a machete with a top-heavy, forward-positioned cutting edge, which functions as an axe while retaining the versatility of a long blade. Extrema Ratio has developed two tools of this kind, including KH, blending ancient and modern designs. The blade features a combination of grinds. The razor grind closer to the grip yields a fine, sharp edge without compromising the overall thickness of the back of the blade, which requires great sturdiness. The upper part of the blade has a flat grind, well-angled to effortlessly penetrate wood and vegetation.
While similar tools are usually made of softer steel alloys for their elasticity and ease of sharpening, we were able to achieve adequate elasticity and a remarkably long-lasting edge using the hard Böhler N690 steel. This machete is equipped with a thigh sheath with a black Cordura pocket and a safety strap. KH is available in BLACK (burnished blade) and SATIN (satin blade).
