KARBID KREMÍKA
Silicon carbide SiC is a compound of silicon and carbon.
Silicon carbide is produced by reducing silicon oxide with carbon, which takes place at sufficiently high temperatures in electric resistance furnaces. After sorting out the finely crystalline unreacted product, the lumped silicon carbide is crushed, ground, washed in water, and sorted with a magnet on abrasive grain nets.
Silicon carbide is most often used as an abrasive in the production of grinding tools and aids.
